Angela Matarrese RYT500, NCIDQ, Certified Yoga Health Coach

Founder of Sukha Yoga Design

My name is Angela.  Born and raised in Wisconsin, I have some beer and cheese in my blood, and will always be honored when referred to as the “super nice midwestern girl” in my travels.  From the outside I may seem super chill and spiritual with a sarcastic edge.  At least that is what people have said about me.  It is all true except for the “chill” part.  As I maintain a relaxed and “chill” façade, the truth is that I am super excited inside and am bursting with things that I still want to learn and share with the world.  Sukha Yoga Design is a culmination of all of that so far.

For as long as I can remember, I have had a personal mission in life to leave every space I interacted with better than in was when I came to it.   I decided that I would live this out professionally by studying Interior Design and received my BA of Interior Design from Mount Mary University in 2004. I worked as a commercial interior designer for 14 years at various firms in the Milwaukee area.  The variety of projects I worked on include schools, colleges, hospitals, clinics, corporate offices, the lists goes on.  In 2008, I passed the NCIDQ, which is a professional examination that allows me to be a Wisconsin Licensed and Registered Interior Designer.

While having this career focus, I started to explore my personal wellness path in 2008 by beginning a yoga practice.  That eventually lead to a calling to teach!  I am certified at the 500 hour level.  I completed my 200-hour Certification in 2014 with Santosh Yoga in Foundational Alignment based Hatha Yoga in Wauwatosa, WI and my 300-hour and SUP Yoga Certification with Zuna Yoga in 2016 in the Tantra Hatha Vinyasa tradition in Bali, Indonesia.  I continue my Yoga Studies with YogaRupa Rod Stryker of ParaYoga and completed a Yoga Nidra - Enlightned Sleep Training in Carbondale, CO in 2019, Vinyasa Krama in 2021, and Tantra in 2022. My most influential teachers have been Father Joe Pereira of the Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga Tradition, Everett Newell and Katherine Girling of Zuna Yoga, and YogaRupa Rod Stryker of ParaYoga.

It was during all of this intense work and study, where my personal mission evolved. I discovered that not only does the design of space outside of us matter, but also the space within us, and the space of how we use our time.  I started studying formally with Cate Stillman in 2018 to become a certified as a Yoga Health Coach and lead dynamic groups further down their paths with habit and lifestyle evolution, and have been continuing study with her since.  I believe life is a constant journey and I strive to keep learning and constantly evolve.

Though Sukha Yoga Design has technically been manifesting my whole life, the name, logo, and mission came to my mind in a meditation while traveling in Indonesia in 2016.  While I didn't know what to do with the information I received at the time, I trusted that it would all come together when it was ready.  Turns out, it also took a lot of hard work and soul searching on my end too:)  It is with great excitement I offer you these ways to celebrate your own harmony!
